Camphor has gone right to the top of my favorite all time soaps. I was skeptical at first, and in fact the scent took a while to fully develop. But once it did, wow! In perfumery, one of the great goals is to achieve a balance between essences of "sweet" and "vegetal" or "clean" (e.g., lavender: sweet; amber: clean). Many natural scents self-sort handily into one or another camp, and the perfumer can then play with combinations to find various balance points through blending. Camphor is a rare example of a natural scent that straddles the two worlds with no additional curation. It is brightly lemony with a touch of tropical fruit sweetness and a hint of grassy green keeping it all together, all bound up in an estery envelope thanks to chemical properties of camphor that relate to its therapeutic use in topical ointments and inhalants. This soap has taken a place in my "top 5" pantheon, for sure.
